As the temperature cools in September, the annual migration season of migratory birds in Shanghai begins. The waders such as the dunlin have safely arrived at Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve, a paradise for migratory birds and a place nominated for World Natural Heritage. On September 17, 2022, Shanghai Natural History Museum, together with Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology Conservation (SEE), jointly held the first nature liaison staff workshop in Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve and Fuwei Village, Zhongxing Town. 10 natural liaison representatives and 5 young observers participated in the activity.

This activity includes 3 links: expert lecture hall, handmade intangible cultural heritage workshop, and bird watching practical activities. Wu Wei, Senior Engineer of Science and Technology Information Section of Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve Management Center, taught the basic knowledge of migratory birds, methods and achievements of human research on bird migration in the expert lecture hall. During the handmade intangible cultural heritage workshop, Jin Weiguo, winner of the "100 Most Beautiful Ecological Environment Volunteers in 2022", shared his "bird whistle" stunt of catching waders in the work of bird banding and flag tying and untying, and Mr. Jin's "whistle to attract birds" performance was unanimously praised by everyone. During bird watching practical activities, the Dr. Wu Wei and Dr. He Xin, a science popularizer from Shanghai Natural History Museum, led the audience to Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve to observe bird, experience scientific research sample investigation, and appreciate the rich biodiversity of the Reserve.
