“Delicious Crabs, Luscious Wines” Chinese Wine and Crab Exhibition on Display at Shanghai Natural History Museum
Organized by Yangtze Delta Alliance for Popularization of Science, and undertaken by the SSTM, Jiangsu Science & Technology Museum and Shaoxing Sci-Tech Museum, “Delicious Crabs, Luscious Wines” Chinese Wine and Crab Exhibition opened on January 16 in Temporary Exhibition Hall B1 at Shanghai Natural History Museum (branch of the SSTM). Long known as the “land of fish and rice”, the Yangtze River Delta area boasts abundant and unique agricultural products thanks to its blessed climate and geographical conditions. The exhibition focuses on two of its unique local products - yellow rice wine and crabs. Centering on four themes - “Search” “Knowledge” “Taste” and “Reflection”, it seeks to explore the science behind wine and crabs from records of the two objects in history and demonstrates their unique status and symbolic meanings in the culture of South China, from simple culinary pleasures to the ties they represent to the homeland. Targeted at families, the exhibition aims to inspire the children to make explorations on their own through such an immersive experience and the parents to feel the charm of the wine and crab culture while tutoring their children.
