In order to develop and integrate the resources of popular science research and study, co-build a shared cooperation platform, and promote the healthy development of popular science research and study, the 3rd China Popular Science Research and Study Conference hosted by the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Journalism and the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum (SSTM) and organized by the SPHIBL and the Yangtze River Delta Popular Science Venue Alliance was held from August 27 to 28 in Shanghai. More than 100 representatives from popular science venues, popular science bases, primary and secondary schools, scientific research institutes and science and technology enterprises all over the country attended the meeting, which was broadcast live online. As one of the key activities in the forum section of the 2020 Shanghai Science Festival, the conference is themed on “Innovation in Science Popularization and Development of Research and Study.” Focusing on the status quo and existing problems of popular science research and study development from an international perspective, the conference explored the mechanisms that can effectively combine China’s science popularization innovation with research and study resources development.
The “Consensus and Action” proposal is the biggest achievement and highlight of this conference. It is a consensus reached at the round table meeting held on 27 August after repeated discussions and exchanges of opinions among expert representatives in the past few months. The conference hopes to further clarify the connotation of popular science research and study through the issuance of the proposal, and reach a consensus on the educational goals of popular science research and study; to integrate the resources of popular science research and study through multi-field and multi-disciplinary collaboration, and strive for more social attention and support for the research and study development; and to improve the practice methods of popular science research and study with high quality, and explore new ways of science education at the same time.
