The "Musical Box of Eight Planets" of Shanghai Astronomy Museum showed up at the Exhibition of National Sci-tech Innovation Achievements in the "13th Five-Year" Period.

From October 21 to 27, the Exhibition of National Sci-tech Innovation Achievements in the "13th Five-Year" Period (hereinafter referred to as "the achievement exhibition") was held in Beijing Exhibition Centre. The original scientific exhibit "Musical Box of Eight Planets" of Shanghai Astronomy Museum (a branch of SSTM) stood out in the national selection of scientific exhibits and was selected into the "Science Popularization Area" of the achievement exhibition. As an important exhibit of that area, the musical box was displayed in the main line of the entire exhibition. 

The "Musical Box of Eight Planets" is an original exhibit collected in the "Homeland" exhibition area of Shanghai Astronomy Museum. It is composed of an upper part and a lower part. The upper part is a device of the solar system. 150 copper gears and the transmission mechanism of the device are well coordinated to drive the models of eight planets which move according to the real directions and orbital periods at a certain ratio. The lower part is a mechanical turntable-type musical box. Its 506 pins push 54 sets of wheels to play wonderful music. The melodies of the musical box were created by professional composers according to the moving laws and "personalities" of the eight planets. This exhibit gives a visual demonstration of the structure of the solar system and the moving laws of the planets. It's also a perfect fusion of science and art. During the exhibition, the guest visitors and the general public highly praised the "Musical Box of Eight Planets", saying that the exhibit is very creative and visually displays a full picture of the solar system in an artistic manner. Many visitors expressed their hope to visit Shanghai Astronomy Museum in future.
