Workshop on Coastal Wetland Birds Conservation in Asia-Pacific Region Held

On November 28, 2020, the Workshop on Coastal Wetland Birds Conservation in Asia-Pacific Region organized by Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Island Research Center of Ministry of Natural Resources and APEC Marine Sustainable Development Center, and co-organized by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) was successfully held in Shanghai Natural History Museum (a branch of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum). It adopted a combination of online and offline methods, and was attended by 100+ experts and scholars from several APEC countries.
Focusing on the theme of “Coastal Wetland Birds Conservation in the Asia-Pacific Region”, 11 experts from home and abroad shared the latest research results and made many wonderful reports on the conservation strategy of migratory shorebirds in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, migration and conservation needs of cranes, coordinated development of birds conservation and wind power, and the current status of island birds conservation in China. After in-depth discussion, the workshop reached a broad consensus and jointly issued the Proposal for Coastal Wetland Birds Conservation in the Asia-Pacific Region.
During the conference, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and Island Research Center of Ministry of Natural Resources signed a strategic cooperation agreement, focusing on conservation and management of island biodiversity, promoting effective integration of scientific research and science popularization, accelerating transformation of scientific research results, improving the diffusion of science and culture, and supporting regional economic development.
