Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Has Set Up an Astronomical Research Center

On December 18, 2020, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum officially launched the astronomical research center. CAS Academician Ye Shuhua served as the special adviser. A high-level expert committee was established with experts from National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Purple Mountain Observatory, School of Astronomy and Space Science of Nanjing University, and Astronomy at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
When planning and building Shanghai Astronomy Museum (a branch of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum), Shanghai Science and Technology Museum had prospectively proposed to set up an astronomical research center, which will be committed to making use of the resource advantages of the observation equipment and meteorite collections of Shanghai Astronomy Museum, focusing on the frontier hotspots in astronomy, actively responding to the national scientific and technological development strategy, and achieving first-class research results in several featured scientific fields. It will rely on cultural and historical collection resources of Shanghai Astronomy Museum to promote the astronomical collections and cultural exchanges worldwide, and conduct research on the laws of scientific development. It will use the digital service platform of Shanghai Astronomy Museum to promote the exploration of new ways in astronomical education and knowledge dissemination, lead and support the educational development of Shanghai Astronomy Museum, and build a high-quality popular science platform that conforms to international standards and leads the development of domestic industries.
