Our Museums

The SSTM is China’s only comprehensive science and technology museum complex that integrates a science and technology museum, a natural history museum, and a planetarium. It is a National First-Class Museum and a National 5A-level Tourist Attraction.

 

Located at No. 2000 Century Avenue, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, the SSTM officially opened on December 18, 2001, with a total building area of 100,600 square meters. With the theme of “Nature · Human · Technology,” the Museum features ten permanent exhibition areas, including Rainforest Realm, Powering the Future, Material Matrix, Light of Wisdom, Mini World, Shared Planet, AI Pioneers, Gleam of Exploration, Incredible Me, and Aviation Adventures, as well as temporary exhibition halls, Innovation Camp, IMAX 3D Theater, IMAX Dome Theater, IWERKS 4D Theatre, lecture halls, and multifunctional halls.

 

Over more than 20 years since its opening, the SSTM has consistently upheld its mission to enhance public scientific literacy and has received more than 95 million visitors from China and abroad. It has been selected nine times among the world’s 20 most popular museums, ranking as high as sixth. In 2001, the 9th APEC Economic Leaders nformal Meeting was held at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
