On May 22, 2025, at the invitation of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, select core exhibits from the Shanghai Astronomy Museum (SAM) Meteorite Culture Exhibition made a special appearance at the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF). As China’s largest, highest-level and most influential national-level comprehensive cultural expo, ICIF serves as a pivotal international platform showcasing the integration of cutting-edge cultural and technological achievements. Three remarkable exhibits from the SAM delivered truly unique experiences to attendees.

The SAM Meteorite Culture Exhibition will open in July 2025 at the museum’s B1 temporary exhibition hall. The exhibition’s highlight will be the debut of “Wan Lai Ji” as part of the world’s first meteorite bianqing (ancient Chinese chime instrument). Nine meteorite chime slabs from the set have been selected and mounted on seven “ancient mythical beasts,” forming a small ensemble that perfectly combines mythological elements with astronomical science to present the “first sound from outer space.”

Another centerpiece is the world’s first “1:1 Scale Ruyi Jingu Bang (the Monkey King’s magic staff) Forged from Pure Meteoritic Iron.” While the full-size artifact could not be transported, its miniature replica was on display, allowing visitors to examine it through magnifying lenses. This meteoritic iron staff not only faithfully recreates the legendary mythological artifact, but also imbues it with new cosmic significance.

The SAM’s immersive edutainment experience “The Mobile Planetarium” also made its debut at the ICIF. This cutting-edge product integrates VR, AI-generated content (AIGC), and spatial positioning technologies to digitally recreate the museum’s key exhibition zones and signature displays, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a panoramic, multisensory, and hyperrealistic cosmos.
