On the afternoon of May 22, 2025, which marked the 25th International Day for Biological Diversity, “Explore National Parks & Create A Green Future” - the launch of the “Take-Home National Parks” illustrated book series was held at the Shanghai Natural History Museum (SNHM). Co-directed by the China Welfare Institute and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, and jointly organized by the China Welfare Institute Publishing House and the SNHM, the event was supported by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Qinghai Province and the Shanghai Science Education Development Foundation. The event combined a new book release with a creative exchange seminar, bringing together over 40 experts from science communication, education, and publishing fields, along with 40 young readers. It aimed to utilize interactive, recordable, and engaging children’s books to immerse participants in the ecological concepts of China’s national parks

As a National Key Publication for the 14th Five-Year Plan and a Shanghai Key Publication, the “Take-Home National Parks” illustrated series is an original children’s science collection targeting ages 5-12. The five-volume set includes: Journey Above the Clouds: Sanjiangyuan National Park, Gun Gun Says “Come & Play!”: Giant Panda National Park, Big Cats in Our Village: Northeast China Tiger & Leopard National Park, The Long-Armed Crooner’s Paradise: National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest, and In Search of the Legendary Tree: Wuyishan National Park.

An interactive national-park-themed science play was a highlight at the event. Featuring an AI guide named “ParkBot,” the play follows young book protagonists on a journey to explore nature, blending animations with rare wildlife soundscapes to transport the audience into breathtaking ecosystems. The subsequent quiz session saw enthusiastic participation from young readers, who deepened their understanding of national parks through joyful engagement.
