2025 Summer Astronomy Carnival at SAM Energizes New Cultural and Tourism Scenes in Lin-gang Special Area
With strong support from the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, the “2025 Summer Astronomy Carnival and the Lin-gang Special Area ‘Commerce and Travel in Proximity’ Series” was officially launched by SAM on July 18, 2025, and will run until August 31.
At the launch event, the “Stars Fallen, Greatness Risen” Meteorite Culture Exhibition, jointly organized by SAM and the Hubei Provincial Museum, officially opened to the public. Following five years of meticulous planning, the exhibition presents three themed sections titled “Heavenly Secrets Unveiled,” “Divine Weapons Breaking Boundaries,” and “Voices of Starstones,” breaking the boundaries between science and culture.
As the first multi-sensory meteorite-themed exhibition in China that integrates mythology, history, and space technology, the show recreates the spectacular Ming Dynasty meteor shower through dynamic projection, triggers light and shadow effects of “heavenly warriors” by “touching the Jingu Bang (the Monkey King’s magic staff),” and reveals the full process of crafting a meteorite chime from cutting to tuning through documentary footage. The exhibition activates scientific imagination from multiple dimensions and invites visitors to hear the echoes of the universe from 4.6 billion years ago.
In the meanwhile, SSTM and the Hubei Provincial Museum officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Both parties are committed to fostering new sparks in fields such as astronomy education and cultural exhibitions, jointly creating cultural products that contribute to shaping young people’s understanding of astronomy and history.
During the event, SAM designed a series of online and in-person educational activities tailored to diverse audiences. These included 17 branded programs such as “My Universe Showcase” by young science interpreters, the Starry Sky Concert, the Meteorite Challenge, the 8th National Astronomy Innovation Competition, and the Perseid Meteor Shower Livestream. Additional programs themed around summer included the “Gazing at the Stars” special session, the poetry and riddle activity “Starlit Riddles”, and the themed guided tour SAM WALK, all aimed at enhancing public engagement.
