Modern Astronomy Series Frontier Courses Jointly Offered by Astronomical Research Center and Shanghai High School

The first class of modern astronomy series frontier courses jointly planned and offered by Astronomical Research Center of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum and Shanghai High School was delivered on February 25, 2025. Lin Qing, Director of Astronomical Research Center, gave a lecture on Introduction to Modern Astronomy for teachers and students of the school. The project aims to stimulate high school students' interest in astronomy and broaden their scientific horizons through a series of high-quality astronomy courses.

In the first class of the series of courses, Lin Qing explained the basic connotation of modern astronomy and the importance of astronomical research to scientific development and national strategic needs, summarized the core views of modern cosmology, shared his thoughts on scientific spirit and scientific thinking, and opened the door for students to explore the mysteries of the universe. Lin Qing also introduced the characteristics of Shanghai Astronomy Museum and scientific research projects of Astronomical Research Center to teachers and students, encouraging students to carry out innovative scientific research together.

Subsequently, the Astronomical Research Center will designate more researchers to teach in Shanghai High School with a total over 10 times, covering space telescope, deep space exploration, formation and evolution of stars and galaxies, origin and evolution of universe, exploration of extraterrestrial life, meteorite analysis, planetary chemistry, etc., providing systematic modern astronomy education for teachers and students.
