On February 27, 2025, a special activity for the opening of One Square Meter Museum · Fin Whale Museum was held at Tianyuan Foreign Language Primary School, Minhang District, Shanghai. This was the 17th themed campus exhibition organized by Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, where there was the largest single exhibit presented by "One Square Meter Museum" so far.

The fin whale skeleton specimen on display has long been displayed on the B2/F of the Shanghai Natural History Museum. This huge skeleton structure was once mistaken for dinosaur skeleton. At the beginning of the new semester, Shanghai Science & Technology Museum displayed this precious collection outside the museum for the first time, bringing a scientific exploration tour for the teachers and students at close range.

The specimen consists of more than 200 bones spliced together, with an overall weight of about 3 tons, including 15 pairs of ribs, each weighing 10 to 12 jin (5-6 kg). On the opening day, the specimen was displayed in the gymnasium on the second floor of the school, occupying nearly one-third of the space. In addition, exhibition content related to fin whales was displayed in the gymnasium and corridors, attracting the attention of many teachers and students.

In order to promote the deep integration of museum resources and primary and secondary education, Shanghai Science & Technology Museum launched the "One Square Meter Museum" project under the guidance of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the support of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. The scientific, themed, situational and mobile project brings precious collections into the campus in the form of museum-style exhibition so that students can have a close contact with science. It is widely popular with teachers and students.
