The Future of Astronomy Museum & Planetarium — Symposium on the Development of Astronomy Museum & Planetarium in the New Era Was Held
The year 2024 marks the centenary of the birth of the world's first planetarium. The Future of Astronomy Museum & Planetarium — Symposium on the Development of Astronomy Museum & Planetarium in the New Era organized by Shanghai Science & Technology Museum was held at Shanghai Astronomy Museum from November 13 to 16, in order to promote international exchanges and cooperation between astronomy museums & planetariums in terms of exhibition, display, education and research and explore the innovative development of a new generation of astronomy museums & planetariums. More than 60 astronomical experts from 11 countries and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions of China attended the symposium to discuss new development models and new cooperation ideas for astronomy museums & planetariums in the new era.
The symposium was divided into two parts: keynote reports and a special forum. The keynote reports were presented by four domestic and foreign experts from the astronomy industry. The special forum focused on the discussion of three themes: "Innovative Development of the Display System for Astronomy Museums & Planetariums," "Multi-dimensional Application of Educational Functions," and "The Significance of the Construction of Astronomy Museums & Planetariums in Promoting Social Development." The participants also visited Shanghai Astronomical Museum and Shanghai 65-meter Radio Telescope (Tianma Telescope) of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, CAS to learn about the history and current development of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory.
