On the evening of May 30, in celebration of the 75th International Children’s Day, the Shanghai Natural History Museum (SNHM, a branch of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) fully leveraged its exemplary role in science popularization by hosting the YEAH KIDS Children’s Day Special Event.

The event, themed around “YEAH KIDS,” tapped into collaborative resources between the museum, schools, and enterprises. Partnering with organizations including Bank of Communications Shanghai Branch, Jiading Primary School Attached to Shanghai Normal University, and Shanghai Changning Xinjian Kindergarten, it created a cross-sectoral Children’s Day carnival featuring interactive science exploration, artistic experiences, cultural activities, and nature discovery for families.

The year 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the new SNHM. That evening, a special 10th anniversary exhibition - the China’s Dinosaur World - used the profound history of nature and science that spans hundreds of millions of years as a compelling invitation to children and parents. This invitation beckons them to traverse time and space, experience the life rhythms of the prehistoric giants, decode the evolutionary secrets of China’s dinosaur families, and learn about the scientific discoveries and research efforts of three generations of Chinese paleontologists.

After marveling at the crown-jewel-level dinosaur fossil specimens, children could transform into paleontologists at the “Fingertip Nature: Dinosaur Golden Age” fun market stalls. Using materials like modeling clay, dinosaur bone molds, pencils, and white paper, they simulated fossil discovery and research processes, creating their own “dinosaur imprint fossils” and preserving dinosaur “footprints” through rubbing techniques.
