On January 18, 2025, the "Mystical Realms of Snakes," a zodiac special exhibition originally curated by Shanghai Science & Technology Museum for the Year of Snake of 2025, kicked off in the Atrium B2 of the Shanghai Natural History Museum (Branch of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum). This exhibition focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the mysterious biological group of snakes from a scientific perspective, combines science, culture and art from a unique viewpoint, and aims to enable viewers to re-understand snakes from multiple perspectives such as evolution, diversity, and human life. It will run through April 10.

The exhibition consists of four parts: "Where Serpents Lurk," "Slithering Across the World," "Survival Wisdom," and "Dancing with Snakes." The venue adopts an "S" shaped layout, which is inspired by a sinuous snake body to design moving lines, simulates the scene of a snake's habitat, and is complemented by sound and lighting effects to create an immersive exploration experience for viewers.

The exhibition integrates elements of nature, culture, and science and technology, presenting a distinctive event of science popularization through diverse means of display such as rich specimens, natural science paintings, multimedia, and interactive installations. It features 80 selected specimens from the collection, including ancient fossil specimens and modern snake specimens, covering one-third of the common snakes in China and newly recorded snakes in Shanghai.
