The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Held a Special Event to Pay Homage to Academician Tan Jiazhen, Known as “China''s Morgan”
September 15 marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of academician Tan Jiazhen, the founder of modern genetics in China, an outstanding scientist and educator, and known as “China's Morgan”. On that afternoon, the "Meet @ Scientists — Commemorating Tan Jiazhen" special event and the 214th lecture of the Shanghai Science Communication Forum took place at the Shanghai Natural History Museum. During the event, participants deeply commemorated the remarkable contributions of Academician Tan, promoted the spirit of science, and disseminated knowledge of life sciences.
Ni Minjing, Curator of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, highlighted the significant contributions of Tan Jiazhen, former Curator of the Shanghai Natural History Museum, to the development of the venue and the enhancement of its research capabilities. Academician He Zuhua delivered a public lecture titled Plants — The "Arms Race" Between Pathogens: The Importance of Crop Disease Resistance Breeding. Using rice as an example, he emphasized the critical role of research on crop disease resistance and breeding in ensuring food security.
