The Successful Conclusion of the "Youth Science and Technology Innovation Camp for Radio Astronomy" of Shanghai Astronomy Museum
On January 18, 2025, the defense and closing ceremony of "Youth Science and Technology Innovation Camp for Radio Astronomy," the first science and innovation program for high school students at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, was successfully held, which marked the successful conclusion of this science and innovation camp program.
The program was launched in mid-September 2024. Four experts from the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to serve as supervisors, and nearly 50 high school students from four key middle schools in Shanghai were recruited to participate in the program. Additionally, each school involved in this program was provided with astronomy instructors. This program aimed to create a platform for teenagers to experience the scientific research process of radio astronomy both online and offline.
The online courses of the program included science popularization reports, physical fundamentals of astronomy, fundamentals of radio astronomy and telescopes, and radio astronomical observations, laying a solid theoretical foundation for students. The offline activities were carried out in Sheshan Tianma Telescope Park and Nanhuizui Guanhai Park respectively, where students got to know large radio telescopes up close, combined theory and observation, built small radio telescopes to simulate observation, and deeply experienced the charm of scientific research in radio astronomy.
