Shanghai Science & Technology Museum Popularized Science into Campus and Added Science Education in "Double Reduction"

Recently, in order to actively respond to the "double reduction" policy and enrich the campus cultural life of students, Shanghai Science & Technology Museum fully started the activities of popularizing science into campus after closing on the basis of "museum-school cooperation", and sent rich popular science resources to schools and classrooms in various ways including scientific performances and science courses, which became an important extension of science popularization education of the museum during the closing period. 

On April 21, 2023, Ni Minjing, curator of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, led the Exhibition and Education Center team of the museum to Zhuyuan Primary School (Demonstration School of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum) in Pudong New Area for carrying out activities of science popularization entering campus, and sent the students a scientific performance The Power of Structure and a scientific course The Ups and Downs in Water, which was a deep museum-school cooperation based on school-based curriculum. 

In the early stage of the activity, the museum and the school made sufficient theme communication and knowledge foreshadowing. Through participation in a series of activities, such as paper bridge building, paper bridge load-bearing competition and bridge painting, in the unit study of "Bridge", a second-year natural discipline, the students had initially learned the crossing function and load-bearing function of bridges. The students saw the amazing power of corrugated structure, triangular prism, hexagonal prism, cylinder and other structures in interesting scientific experiments by watching the scientific performance The Power of Structure brought by the science teacher from the museum, which stimulated their interest in exploring structural design. This just played a complementary role with the learning content in nature class. 

In addition, under the guidance of the science teacher of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, the engineering team formed by 36 students who were active in participation and launched fantastic ideas, carried out a PK competition of carrying capacity with small paper boats. During the experiments, they learned to measure and record dimensions, learned simple control variable methods and summarized the data briefly. 

On March 19, the Exhibition and Education Center team of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum also went to Jinshan Experimental Middle School, and brought the wonderful scientific performance Sound and Music and the science course Layers of Shadows to the students, so that they could appreciate the charm of sound and password.
