"Crossing the Galaxy" XR Immersive Astronomical Science Popularization Project Launched by Shanghai Astronomy Museum

During the Spring Festival of 2025, Shanghai Astronomy Museum launched an XR immersive astronomical science popularization project, "Crossing the Galaxy." Through XR immersive VR technology, the audience could travel through the Milky Way from the first-person perspective, trace the evolution of the Earth, observe the bright stars, and immerse in the fascinating atmosphere of the "Endless Universe" Starry Sky Concert.

The XR immersive astronomical science popularization project of "Crossing the Galaxy" contained four scenes: "Looking up to Stars," "Earth Evolution," "Flying over the Milky Way" and "Endless Universe." It provided the audience with a 25-minute tour by using the original audio-visual materials in the museum combined with digital technology. The audience seemed to travel through the vast universe, experience the beauty of the blend of science and art at close range, and deeply understand the scientific principles and knowledge details behind the exhibits. Highly popular with the audience, this novel way of science popularization attracted nearly 4,000 visitors for experience during the 7-day holiday.

In the future, Shanghai Astronomy Museum will carry on innovation, actively explore and apply cutting-edge scientific and technological means, and continuously launch more creative science popularization projects.
