Chinese Rose Valley in Community Parks: 2025’s First “Explore Nature · Community Park Season” Kicked Off
On April 26, 2025, the inaugural “Explore Nature · Community Park Season” science popularization tour of the year was held at Sanquan Park in Jing’an District, Shanghai. Families attending the event admired the Chinese roses, experienced intangible cultural heritage, and created handicrafts, immersing themselves in the sea of flowers and the wonders of nature.
The event featured a “dual-lecturer team” comprising Xu Shanshan, associate researcher from the Shanghai Natural History Museum (SNHM), and Cao Yanyan, park management director of Sanquan Park’s maintenance unit. They guided the families through the stunning rose garden, decoding the magical floral landscapes right in the neighborhood. Shanghai’s first batch of intangible cultural heritage inheritors demonstrated the “effortless strength” of stone weight and lock performances, showcasing the rich community culture of the park. Science educators from the SNHM helped young participants create plant specimen albums containing roses, allowing them to take home both spring’s beauty and scientific knowledge.
In recent years, as the “People-Centric City” concept is progressively implemented, community parks have become integral to the city’s fabric. The 2025 “Explore Nature · Community Park Season” series employs outdoor live-streams, expert-guided tours, and interactive workshops to guide citizens to explore the ecological features and functional characteristics of community parks and help urban residents rediscover the natural beauty within their neighborhoods. These efforts propel Shanghai’s “People-Centric City” development to new heights, while firmly rooting the “Park City” concept in citizens’ hearts and minds.
