Original Exhibition of the Museum Selected as a Key Recommended Program for National TOP 20 "Read China in the Museum"

On May 18, 2024, the main venue event of the International Museum Day 2024 in China was held in the ancient capital of Xi'an. The list of recommended programs for the thematic exhibition "Read China in the Museum - Promote Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture and Foster Socialist Core Values" in 2024, sponsored by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, was announced. Guided by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, supported by Shanghai Science & Education Development Foundation and planned by SSTM, the exhibition of "A Long Story of Long: Chinese dragon in National Important Programs" was selected as one of the 20 key recommended programs.

The exhibition was inspired from "Chinese Zodiac + Science and Technology," with three parts designed, including "Dragon - Culture," "Dragon - Nature" and "Dragon - Science and Technology," to explore the cultural lineage of the dragon, the mysteries of nature and the core of science and technology respectively. The exhibition took advantages of the core values of SSTM. By virtue of science and technology, it innovatively showcased the scientific and technological achievements from ancient times to the present day under the name of "dragon," covering 8 categories and 26 pieces of national important programs. It aimed to explore the scientific principles, core technologies and scientific spirit, and explain the pioneering spirit, bravery and ceaseless self-improvement of "Dragon's Successors." The contents of the exhibition referred to more than 100 domestic and foreign literature, involving the latest scientific research results of biological evolution, aerospace, deep-diving exploration and so on.

In order to enhance the influence and publicity effect, the exhibition was accompanied by seven thematic educational activities, which organically combined expert lectures, thematic studies and science courses with the content of the exhibition. In terms of cultural creation, to welcome the Chinese New Year of Dragon, the exhibition focused on five scientific and technological dragon IP images, and developed a total of 16 kinds and 39 models of cultural creation derivatives.

In addition to the display in SNHM, the exhibition also facilitated the resource sharing among museums, and between museums and schools. The second destination was universities and colleges. The exhibition was on tour at the library of ShanghaiTech University. The third destination was the Yangtze River Delta. Part of the exhibition is currently on tour in Jiaxing Science and Technology Museum. The total offline visits of the exhibition exceeded 460,000.
