On September 6, 2025, a short-tailed quokka specimen from Western Australia officially found its new home at SNHM. Known as “the happiest animal in the world,” this remarkable species has crossed oceans, embarking on a journey of Sino-Australian cooperation in science popularization and cultural exchange.

At the handover ceremony, Ni Minjing, Director of SSTM, and Jason Fair, Director of the Western Australian Museum, jointly unveiled the specimen and placed it in its display case. From now on, “Aole Di” will greet every visitor with its signature “smile,” sharing the beauty and preciousness of biodiversity. Director Jason Fair also gave a lecture at the “Green Conch Forum” titled “Exploring the Wonders of Western Australia’s Biodiversity,” where he vividly guided the audience through the diverse ecological marvels of Western Australia, from the Karri Forests and the Red Deserts to Ningaloo Reef and the ancient gorges of the Kimberley region.
