Green Snail Lecture Reveals the Secrets of the Floral World
On April 12, 2025, the Shanghai Natural History Museum (SNHM) (Branch of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) hosted the 245th session of the Green Snail Lecture. Lu Baorong, Distinguished Professor of Fudan University, delivered a topic-focused lecture titled “A Riot of Colors: The Secrets of the Floral World.”
During the lecture, Professor Lu showcased a wealth of floral photographs he had taken, providing the audience with a comprehensive introduction to flowers from their colors, structures, varieties, evolutionary processes, etc. He also detailed how flowers from plants influence human life by exploring their edible, medicinal, and ecological functions. Professor Lu shared an intriguing fact with the audience: not all plants bear flowers, nor are all flowers brightly colored, yet each possesses its own unique wisdom for survival and reproduction. He encouraged everyone to start with themselves by fostering a mindset of environmental conservation and contributing to the protection of our beautiful planet. The lecture concluded with a lively and engaging Q&A session.
The Green Snail Lecture is a public welfare science popularization program organized by the SNHM, aiming to promote scientific spirit and disseminate scientific knowledge to the public. Moving forward, the Green Snail Lecture will continue to digitize its outreach efforts, with WeChat Video Channel serving as the primary platform, alongside live-streams, online videos, and visual and textual posts to broaden its impact.
