On March 23, 2024, under the joint guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, and the People's Government of Xuhui District, hosted by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and undertaken by the Shanghai AI Industry Association, the final of the "InternLM-OpenXLab Series Challenge (Spring Competition)" was held. The StarWhisper Edu model, jointly developed by the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Artificial Intelligence Working Group of the National Astronomical Observatories, CAS, won the Innovation and Creativity Award in the competition.

Developed for astronomy knowledge popularization and education scenarios, the StarWhisper Edu large model has undergone targeted knowledge expansion and refinement, downstream task enhancement, and preference alignment, making it suitable for users of different knowledge levels in the field of astronomy education. The model is helpful in dealing with various intelligent scientific research tasks such as astronomical data processing and instrument control through intelligent agents, and has a variety of basic interactive functions built-in.

At present, staff from various departments of the Shanghai Astronomy Museum are also actively learning and exploring the AI application and intelligence-driven knowledge dissemination and public education in the field of astronomy, and have engaged in part of the work of the CAS Mixture of Experts (MoE) led by the National Astronomical Observatories. In the future, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum will further cooperate with partners to carry out R&D and construction in generative artificial intelligence, astronomical science education platform, intelligent curriculum, and intelligent explanation of exhibition halls, etc.
