A Special Commemoration Held by the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum and the Department of Materials Science, Fudan University to Pay Tribute to Academician Yan Dongsheng
On February 23, 2025, Shanghai Science & Technology Museum and Department of Materials Science, Fudan University jointly held the 221st Shanghai Science Communication Forum and the "Meet @ Scientist — A Special Commemoration to Pay Tribute to Mr. Yan Dongsheng" to learn and commemorate Mr. Yan Dongsheng's noble ambition, rigorous and serious work style and dedication to science, enhance public awareness of materials science, and popularize cutting-edge materials science and technology.
At the beginning of the activity, Academician Yan Dongsheng's biographical film Poetry and Truth was played on site, leading the public into Mr. Yan's "life of science." More than 20 visitors with the same birthday as Mr. Yan Dongsheng were invited to the site. Wang Fei, professor of the Department of Materials Science, Fudan University, served as a representative of scientists and presented birthday wishes and messages from scientists to the audience on the same birthday. He also encouraged the audience to help cultivate scientific interest from childhood, inherit the spirit of scientists, and establish the vision of serving the country with science and technology. Later, Prof. Wang Fei gave a lecture on materials popular science, Status Quo and Future Development of Batteries. He started from the invention of batteries, sorted out the evolution of batteries, and described the development from voltaic batteries, lead-acid batteries to lithium-ion batteries.
After the lecture, the visitors of the same birthday were invited to visit the instrument platform shared by the Optical Fiber Research Center, Materials Biology Laboratory, and the Department of Materials Science, Fudan University. The professional and complex experimental equipment became lively and interesting under the introduction of the commentator. The audience gained a close perception of the scientific research process and a more intuitive and in-depth understanding of cutting-edge material science and technology.
