“Keqi Space—Family Innovation Corner” Project Impressively Showcased, Leading a New Trend in Youth Scientific Exploration
On June 29, 2025, SSTM held a presentation and showcase event for the “Keqi Space—Family Innovation Corner” project. The initiative drew enthusiastic participation from over 2,000 attendees and ultimately received 59 innovative submissions, with 22 family teams successfully shortlisted. Among them, 8 families made the impressive leap from creative concepts to practical implementation, completing the transformation of their own family innovation corners.
The “Keqi Space—Family Innovation Corner” project, launched by SSTM, is an educational initiative aimed at encouraging children and teenagers to conduct scientific exploration at home. It guides young participants to make use of resources from their households, the wider community, and the museum to design and build a personalized innovation space. The project promotes a shift in science education from “knowledge input” to “innovation output,” helping children cultivate scientific interest, enhance scientific literacy, and discover their research potential.
Over the course of a year, the museum meticulously organized six themed lectures on science and innovation, inviting leading experts in science innovation, science education, and creative design to provide cutting-edge insights and professional guidance. Participants also took part in group field research to gain a deeper understanding of innovation projects and scientific inquiry methods.
On the morning of the event, showcase of the “Keqi Space—Family Innovation Corner” project officially began, with representatives from the award-winning families presenting their innovation achievements on all fronts. On-site experts highly praised the originality and creativity behind the family innovation corners. Throughout the project, a team of architecture faculty and students from the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University offered one-on-one design support to the participating families. During the event, the Exhibition and Education Center of SSTM and the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University signed an agreement to establish a collaborative partnership, opening a new chapter of in-depth cooperation. Together, the two institutions aim to inject renewed vitality into youth science education.
