A “Giant Baby” Dinosaur Embryo Makes Its Debut in Shanghai! Academician Xu Xing Tells the Legendary Story of Central China’s Dinosaurs

On August 17, 2025, the “Roars from Across China · China’s Dinosaur Exhibition” Henan Theme Week was grandly inaugurated at SNHM. Through a series of special lectures and rare fossil unboxing sessions, the event invited visitors to explore the legendary stories of dinosaurs from China’s Central Plains. The highlight of the event was the debut of the “Beibeilong Sinensis” in Shanghai. At the “Unboxing Ceremony,” Academician Xu Xing, along with Xu Li, Director of the Henan Natural History Museum, jointly unveiled the world’s largest dinosaur embryo fossil, revealing the mysterious beauty of this priceless treasure to the audience.

At the event, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and renowned paleontologist Xu Xing delivered a special lecture titled “The Fascinating Story of the Oviraptor Family.” In his report, Academician Xu presented the evolutionary history of the Oviraptor family in an engaging and accessible way, unveiling the remarkable survival wisdom of these ancient creatures. Through vivid explanations and exquisite images, he led the audience on a journey through time, immersing them in the distant world where Oviraptors once thrived. Following the lecture, Academician Xu Xing and Director Ni Minjing held an in-depth dialogue on new perspectives in dinosaur research.
