To celebrate the 28th "World Book Day" and give full play to the science popularization demonstration function of venues, on April 22, 2023, Shanghai Natural History Museum, Shanghai Library and Shanghai Science and Technology Education Publishing House jointly held a special activity of "Reading Museum" on the World Book Day.

The "Green Snail Pop-up Bookstore" showcased a wide range of original science books from the Shanghai Natural History Museum at its first opening. Visitors can not only borrow books freely in the "Reading Zone", but also exchange books with books in the "Exchange Zone" to find new uses for unused nature science books at home, forming an environmentally friendly and sustainable reading model. In addition, the whole museum has set up a number of "Green Screw Floating Book" points, where the visitors can complete the reading and exchange of experience in the form of a relay and have a collision of ideas across the space.

The "Green Snail Reading Show" transforms the roles and contents of the original science books into a popular science show that incorporates stories, props and specimens to help visitors deepen their reading memories and enrich their reading experience. Themed by "Rare Animal Tea Party", this show organizes a dialogue with humans through the tyrannosaurus rex, great auk, eagle owl and morpho menelaus to discuss the important issue of "extinction and survival" together. Visitors can also share the content of the event through social media platforms and become a "Green Snail Book Recommender" to win limited-edition merches from the "Reading Museum" brand.

In addition to diversified offline experiences, the WeChat Channel of Shanghai Natural History Museum has also launched a series of short videos on "Reading Museum". The videos are secondarily created on the basis of the content of the museum's original science books in an imaginary form in a humorous language style and a simple but profound scientific kernel to stimulate the visitors' curiosity about nature and lead them to explore the wonderful world not involved in the books.

To further exploit the advantages of "cooperation between museums", the original science books of Shanghai Natural History Museum have also "gone" into the library and created a "Green Snail Reading Corner" with the concept of "science + art" in the reading promotion area on the 7th floor of the East Hall of the Shanghai Library. Visitors can enjoy the illustrations in Tracking Dinosaurs and Searching for Lost Birds and can also try on the paper toys in Nature on Paper.
