Shanghai Jiao Tong University Signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Shanghai Science and Technology Museum
On July 11, 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum signed a strategic cooperation agreement and launched the "Science Travel · Technological Innovation Principal Space Station" activity at Shanghai Natural History Museum. Ni Minjing, Curator of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, and Zhang Ansheng, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, signed the strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
In response to the national initiative for multiple stakeholders to facilitate science popularization, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum signed cooperation agreements in 2016 and 2021, respectively, seeking collaboration in various fields such as science and art, and science popularization. This strategic cooperation agreement was concluded to deepen both sides' cooperation in the full chain from technological innovation to the commercialization of scientific outcomes and the promotion of science popularization activities, better disseminate cutting-edge scientific knowledge, and facilitate the application of scientific outcomes. According to the framework agreement, the two parties plan to conduct comprehensive strategic cooperation in three areas: science communication, academic research, and resource sharing and people exchange. By establishing a resource-sharing mechanism, the two sides will ramp up efforts to commercialize cutting-edge scientific research outcomes from universities, advance science education for the general public and teenagers, and enhance the provision of top-notch science education content.
In the "Science Travel · Technological Innovation Principal Space Station" activity, Deng Zixin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Mysteries and Splendors of the Biological World and the Gene Industry". Later on, Professor Gao Feng's team from the State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration of Shanghai Jiao Tong University showcased their intelligent hexapod robot, one of the university's research outcomes in driving the innovative development of high-end equipment with core technologies.
In the "Curator's Invitation" part, Mr. Ni Minjing, along with Ms. Jia Weiping, Mr. Ding Hong, and Mr. Qian Yonggang, had in-depth discussions on the value of university-museum cooperation. The event also featured the appointment and awarding ceremony for the chief consultant, alliance schools of the "Science Travel · Technological Innovation Principal Space Station", and the first batch of scientific advisors of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, as well as members of the expert pool for science principals in primary and middle schools in Shanghai. Furthermore, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum released the "One-Stop Science and Technology Innovation Education" initiative for off-campus education covering kindergarten, primary school, middle school, high school, college, and university students in Shanghai.
A special session of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's "Science and Technology Innovation Fair" was set up in the Exhibition Hall B2 of the Shanghai Natural History Museum. Shanghai Jiao Tong University selected some valuable and interesting items from multiple major scientific innovation achievements and displayed them on July 11 and 12 with a professional team for explanation on the spot.
